Canon / Vimeo Contest.
Values of this Competition
This contest is extra special; There are seven chapters. Each chapter begins on a still image from the previous chapter (with the exception of the first chapter which is based off a still image handed to filmmaker Vincent Laforet by Canon USA).
The contest is highly regarded in the film world because some of Hollywood’s top directors, cinematographers and producers are amongst the judging panel. The likes of Russell Carpenter (Terminator, Abyss, Aliens), Rodney Charters (Nash Bridges, Director of ‘24’ series and Rick McCallum (Producer of the three Star Wars prequels) make up only some of the incredible judging panel for this contest.
We made it into the top ten with our chapter two entry, ‘The Mob,’ starring Michael Redfern (better known as the dad in the long running 'Oxo' commercials), Ricky Valance and Sean Cronin. Latest news update is that Transcendent Films in association with award-winning director Kris Koster, will be filming again in April 2010 for Chapter Four.

Chapter One - The Cabbie
The film you see below forms the first chapter of the Canon USA / Vimeo, 'Story Beyond the Still' contest.
Vincent Laforet, a writer/director based in Los Angeles originally conceived this competition and approached Canon USA who not only endorsed, but agreed to sponsor it along with Vimeo.
Canon handed Vincent a still image (the first image you see in the film below) then he had to create a film based on that first still image. He ends the film with another still image which the next filmmaker must then take forward to start chapter two.
Chapter Two - Job Security
Josh Thacker, his cast and crew, really nailed it as the deserved first winners of this on-going contest. We were astounded at the level of expertise employed to craft an excellent story and produce an effective continuation of the first chapter.
In his entry, Josh re-created the cabbie and brought the story forward with the mysterious key found by his daughter inside the bear, to the keyring of the cabbie, deepening the mystery!
